Occupy Midian Report #4 Transcript

The 4th Occupy Midian Report was a bit impromtu, as I re-recorded it right after we reached 5,000 signatures on Friday, June 1st. I will post the original transcript and change the parts that were changed in the impromtu recording. The Nightbreed extended cut petition keeps growing in number of signatures. We’ve had some amazing members helping to push us to meet our goal that we set for ourselves to reach 5,000 signatures by June 1^st.  At the time of this recording, May 31^st, 10:00 p.m. we were at 4,626 signatures.

(We reached 5,000 signatures on June 1st and at the time I recorded the report there was 5,009 signatures, at the moment of creating this blog there are 5,073 signatures, if you haven't signed it please do so at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nightbreed/)

We have also seen a few new Occupy Midian Sign photos, which are a great addition to the Facebook Group; it helps to remind everyone what we are gathered there for, and also adds a face to Midian. So if you haven’t yet, or if you just want to do another, I encourage you to create your own Occupy Midian sign photo and share it with us. Or if you are brave enough, do a testimonial video, there are a few on youtube, but as with the signatures, the more we have out there, the more likely we will be heard. So help us get the word out, tell your friends, your family, your acquaintances, even strangers on the internet. Blog it, tweet it, Facebook it, pin it, google+ it, stumble it, scoop.it, share it, email it. C’mon guys, you get the idea. The more effort we put forth, the more we will have to show for it. Sounds cliché, but it tends to be true.

Also before the end of today’s report I want to remind y’all about the two screenings of the Nightbreed Cabal Cut that are coming up soon. The first one is at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles on June 10th and the second is going to be at the Portage Theatre in Chicago on July 13. NIGHTBREED CABAL CUT Petition has Reached 5,000 SIGNATURES

At 7:27 p.m. this Friday, June 1st the Petition for a restored, extended cut of Clive Barker's "Nightbreed" reached 5,000 signatures. In just 2 months and 2 days the Occupy Midian group was able to accomplish what others were not able to. Through the hard work, dedication, and sharing of the fans and the comradery that extended itself to some friendly competition we achieved a great goal.

Now we are waiting to see if Morgan Creek is listening. Are they there waiting in the wings seeing what we are up to? One can only hope, because if they are, then this should mean something to them. Whether they see it as I do (passion) or as businessmen (money) either way, this is a BIG BIG thing.

Where we go from here, well I'll keep you updated on that, but DO NOT stop spreading the word. Keep telling others about this film, continue gathering signatures, do the #OccupyMidian sign photos, blogs, video testimonials, the letters to Morgan Creek. We MUST make them take notice!

And Pandemonium Breaks Loose...

Tonight's Nightbreed flashback is brought to you from another piece out of Richie V.'s collection. pg. 68 of Pandemonium Conceived and Edited by Michael Brown.

In the top left you have David Cronenberg as the maniacal Dr. Decker. In the original cut of Nightbreed, you miss out on how much of a hold that little mask has on Decker. You get to hear it talk to him (or command him rather) in the Cabal cut, which even if a shorter addition to the movie, is quite a treat in and of itself.

In the top right corner is a Pre-Production sketch of Decker with the button face mask on. I love how skeletal this sketch looks. However, even without the movie Decker looking quite this menacing, that little mask still sometimes shows up in the corners of my most uncomfortable dreams.

Bottom left corner is a Pre-Production sketch of Ashberry transformed. Great little sketch and they stick fairly close with it in the film.

Bottom right corner is Malcolm Smith being made to look like the scalded Ashberry. If you have seen the Cabal cut (which too many of the population hasn't, and we hope that this gets rememdied asap) then you have missed an incredible ending where Ashberry's character has quite a transformation, for me this by itself changed the entire movie and left me yearning to know more about his character.

So many things were made more beautiful and more ugly (in a good way that ugly can sometimes be good) for me. For those of you who want the chance to see this movie please help by joining the Occupy Midian/Bring Back Nightbreed movement:

Richie V. found his Clive Barker's Shadows in Eden book. He wanted to share some images that he felt were the most moving to help with the Occupy Midian and Bring Back Nightbreed movement.

There are some great quotes in Chapter 36 Frights of Fancy by Nigel Floyd. Thus far my favorite is:

Another great quote is:

"...I think it's in the tradition of a very much darker Thief of Baghdad, in which you're dealing with a fantastical world which is being, as you can see, created from the ground up."

This piece of art, while beautiful in and of itself, isn't quite a true depiction of the entire Nightbreed story. However, with the original release, one would believe that it would be so. The Cabal Cut of Nightbreed would show this piece of art turned around, the monster's suffering at the hands of man. which in this story is unfortunately true.

Which brings us back to one of our favorite questions that surrounds Nightbreed:

Who is truly the real monster?

Cabal Cut Petition

There is now an updated, working, petition out for obtaining a Restored, Extended Cut of Clive Barker's Nightbreed (the working title is the Cabal Cut) thanks to the hard workers over at the Occupy Midian Facebook Group.

This petition has been up for less than a day and already has (at this moment) over 70 signatures! Which is great, however, to get a movie released by Morgan Creek we are going to need A LOT more signatures than that.
