Occupy Midian Report Transcript #9

I apologize for the great delay in posting this transcript, life and my internet connection have been a bit wacky as of late. But better late than never. This is the first Occupy Midian report since the Monster Mania event in New Jersey. Unfortunately I was unable to attend; I cannot wait to hear Ryan’s commentary about his experiences while there. For others, like me, who couldn’t be at this event there are some amazing fan photos and videos from Monster Mania that have been posted on the Occupy Midian Facebook Group’swall.

Anne Bobby has called the Monster Mania weekend “The most fun she’s ever had with clothes on” and I do believe that is saying something. Also during the Q&A panel, Anne called for more letters to be sent to Morgan Creek, tell them why the Cabal Cut is important to you, and ask them when you can buy it on Blu-Ray or DVD. There is a form letter on Occupy Midian’s facebook page under the files tab for you to copy and use if you need to and Morgan Creek’s address is on there as well you will want to edit the letter to include your name and which event you saw the Cabal Cut at. 

Even though I was unable to attend Monster Mania I did get to view part of the Q&A panel thanks to Christian from the Occupy Midian group and the wonderful invention called youtube. You can find links to the Q&A video on, yep you guessed it, the Occupy Midian Facebook page (seriously, if you haven’t joined yet, you really should, we almost always have some interesting news or at least some great conversation going on over there).

I haven’t done an update on the petition lately, but as of now there are over 7,000 signatures. You can find a link to the petition in the top left corner of OccupyMidian.com

As for the future of the Cabal Cut there are currently seven upcoming screenings, six of which take place in the UK and one that will be in Germany. For more information on where those screenings will be held please visit Occupy Midian’s website and click on the screenings link.

We are still encouraging you to sign the petition if you have not, send letters to Morgan Creek to help them realize how many people are truly interested in this film being properly released, and do Occupy Midian sign photos and testimonial videos. For ideas on the photos, view the Occupy Midian Signs under the photos tab on the Occupy Midian Facebook Group. Hopefully with all the publicity that we are gaining and with your help, we can accomplish this goal. We get closer every single day.

Occupy Midian Report 8 Transcript

Nightbreed The Cabal Cut continues to move across countries meeting sold out venues wherever it sets its feet. Already the London screening is nearly sold out. The Cabal Cut will be visiting London on August 24^th, shortly after it’s screening at Monster Mania Con in West Cherry Hill, NJ. Nightbreed the Cabal Cut has been written about on hundreds of blogs, webpages, twitter feeds and more, but most recently a notable article on blogomatic3000.com was published. This article covers not only the history of Nightbreed, but also touches on some of Clive Barker’s other works. The article is a great read for not only Nightbreed fans, but horror film fans as well.

For those of you attending the screening of Nightbreed’s Cabal Cut at Monster Mania Con in New Jersey, here is a bit of news that might grab your attention. Anne Bobby, who plays Lori in the film, is putting together a private talk for Sunday. She wants this to be an intimate event with the telling of private, special stories regarding Nightbreed as well as a Q&A session. The tickets for this event are on sale at eventsbot.com you can find the link on Occupy Midian’s facebook page. The seats are limited to 20 so act fast.

Occupy Midian Report 5 Transcript

The Nightbreed Cabal Cut screening in Los Angeles, California grew to two screenings that both sold out. This, in addition to the hard work that everyone has put in to raise awareness of this film, has brought about a wonderful thing.

On June 12, Clive Barker announced on his twitter:

My friends, Clive here, writing to share some wonderful news. Following the two Sold Out screenings of NIGHTBREED: The Cabal Cut on Sunday, Morgan Creek has given us permission to show the cut around the world and to raise money to prepare the cut for a release on Blu-ray... This could not, would not have happened without your voices. We have all been heard. The Morgan Creek team have my thanks and my respect. Very seldom does anyone in the movie business pay attention as they have, understanding perhaps that the message of the movie as I shot it is one that dramatizes a different ending to the age-old story of how a war between Humankind and something Other draws to a close. The real NIGHTBREED will be available for everyone to see. I hope its message of redemption and forgiveness move you.

When I first heard this news, I was doing a happy dance all around my apartment. The Occupy Midian Facebook group was donning their celebratory hats once again, and with good reason. But we must keep in mind that there is still quite a bit of work that must be done. Morgan Creek is giving permission to show the cut worldwide, which will raise more awareness about this wonderful film. Also they are giving permission to raise money for preparing the Cabal cut for a Blu-ray release. This means there are still many things that need to be done to the film for it to be ready for release, as well as money that needs to be earned in order to put in this work. We are still waiting for further news from the wonderful folks that have been working so hard on Nightbreed the Cabal Cut on what measures they are going to take to raise funds, and how we the fans can help.

So join us in the celebration in this huge step forward, but please help us continue to spread the word.

Morgan Creek Gives Permission to Raise Money for Blu-Ray of Cabal Cut

I logged onto Facebook about 15 minutes ago to discover that on the Occupy Midian Group there was quite a riveting conversation going.

Jose Leitao posted:

Clive Barker: "Morgan Creek has given us permission to show the cut around the world and to raise money to prepare the cut for a release on Blu Ray. This could not,would not have happened without your voices.We have all been heard.The Morgan Creek team have my thanks and my respect. The message from Clive Barker was on twitter this afternoon.

Needless to say we are ecstatic. I will come back to you with what the next steps will be in helping to get the cut shown and to raise money for it's release.

Occupy Midian Report #4 Transcript

The 4th Occupy Midian Report was a bit impromtu, as I re-recorded it right after we reached 5,000 signatures on Friday, June 1st. I will post the original transcript and change the parts that were changed in the impromtu recording. The Nightbreed extended cut petition keeps growing in number of signatures. We’ve had some amazing members helping to push us to meet our goal that we set for ourselves to reach 5,000 signatures by June 1^st.  At the time of this recording, May 31^st, 10:00 p.m. we were at 4,626 signatures.

(We reached 5,000 signatures on June 1st and at the time I recorded the report there was 5,009 signatures, at the moment of creating this blog there are 5,073 signatures, if you haven't signed it please do so at: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/nightbreed/)

We have also seen a few new Occupy Midian Sign photos, which are a great addition to the Facebook Group; it helps to remind everyone what we are gathered there for, and also adds a face to Midian. So if you haven’t yet, or if you just want to do another, I encourage you to create your own Occupy Midian sign photo and share it with us. Or if you are brave enough, do a testimonial video, there are a few on youtube, but as with the signatures, the more we have out there, the more likely we will be heard. So help us get the word out, tell your friends, your family, your acquaintances, even strangers on the internet. Blog it, tweet it, Facebook it, pin it, google+ it, stumble it, scoop.it, share it, email it. C’mon guys, you get the idea. The more effort we put forth, the more we will have to show for it. Sounds cliché, but it tends to be true.

Also before the end of today’s report I want to remind y’all about the two screenings of the Nightbreed Cabal Cut that are coming up soon. The first one is at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles on June 10th and the second is going to be at the Portage Theatre in Chicago on July 13. NIGHTBREED CABAL CUT Petition has Reached 5,000 SIGNATURES

At 7:27 p.m. this Friday, June 1st the Petition for a restored, extended cut of Clive Barker's "Nightbreed" reached 5,000 signatures. In just 2 months and 2 days the Occupy Midian group was able to accomplish what others were not able to. Through the hard work, dedication, and sharing of the fans and the comradery that extended itself to some friendly competition we achieved a great goal.

Now we are waiting to see if Morgan Creek is listening. Are they there waiting in the wings seeing what we are up to? One can only hope, because if they are, then this should mean something to them. Whether they see it as I do (passion) or as businessmen (money) either way, this is a BIG BIG thing.

Where we go from here, well I'll keep you updated on that, but DO NOT stop spreading the word. Keep telling others about this film, continue gathering signatures, do the #OccupyMidian sign photos, blogs, video testimonials, the letters to Morgan Creek. We MUST make them take notice!

Sorry I'm a bit late with this, no excuse other than forgetfulness (oops!). The Occupy Midian movement continues to grow, with new members being added to the Facebook group daily, as well as the petition continuing to gain new signatures. Our most exciting news is the screening of the Nightbreed Cabal Cut at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles on June 10th and at the Portage Theatre in Chicago on July 13. I would also like to extend a belated happy birthday to both Simon Bamford and Nicholas Vince. Speaking of Nicholas, he was able to recently see the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed. His facebook post regarding the movie said: I was privileged to watch The Cabal Cut on Friday night and it is awesome
At last, we get to see the relationship between Lori and Boone, more of The Breed and it was great to hear more of Clive's original dialogue. Russell Cherrington has done an excellent job of showing what this movie could and should be, if Morgan Creek allow access to the original film stock and further support a release on DVD/blu-ray.

Nightbreed Cabal Cut in Chicago July 13

If you are lucky enough to be in or near Chicago, IL on July 13th you should be sure to check out the Nightbreed Cabal Cut! It is presented by Terror in the Aisles 10 and will be at the Portage Theatre -4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. - There will be an introduction of the film and a Q&A session with the Restoration Director Russell Cherrington and Seraphim Produce Mark Miller.

Occupy Midian Report #2 Transcript

Since our last Occupy Midian Report, our Facebook Group has gained many new members and the petition has garnered hundreds of signatures due to great promotion among other cult movie groups such as Repo! The Genetic Opera and due to OccupyMidian.com. We are quickly filling the gap that there was previously between the member numbers and the number of signatures. That is due to the wonderfully dedicated fans for their help and a big thank you to Julian Parry for all the posts he did trying to encourage other members to sign the petition. And as always our administrators are doing a wonderful job. 

Our biggest bit of news for today is the release of the website OccupyMidian.com Russell Cherrington and mark Miller have put in a lot of work on the website thus far, and those of you who go visit it, will be pleasantly surprised with the Official Teaser Trailer for the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed. You can find this trailer on the Occupy Midian website and also on Youtube. 

We have a few more elite Occupy Midian members to mention that have joined our ranks. These members are Geoff Portass, he was one of the founders of Image Animation. Kate Murray, she worked on Nightbreed's special makeup effects, and Lionel Grenier, who is the Editor in Chief of the French Cinema Magazine, "Manivelle".

On the Occupy Midian page, we have had some amazing photos shared within the community, photos of Nightbreed movie props, and photos from the set of our members who were on the movie crew. There is such an amazing amount of Nightbreed memorabilia that you will have to see it for yourself. On another note, Hugh Ross recently had a birthday. We were notified via Anne Bobby's Facebook page, so thank you for that Anne! And Happy Belated Birthday to you, Hugh!

Today, I would like to address the wonderful poster and t-shirt designs that some of the fans are coming up with. I know it is frustrating to hear the admins tell you that Occupy Midian does not condone creating Nightbreed merchandise to SELL. However, the intentions behind these statements are good; we do not want to cause any copyright or other legal issues that would turn Morgan Creek off from our goal; which is to have the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed released. But, you can create a poster or t-shirt for purely personal use, so long as you get permission to use copyrighted material. We love seeing your ideas and on't want you think we are trying to be unduly cruel to your hard work; we just do not want anything to accidentally backfire and ruin oru chances of finally having a shot at making the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed a possibility in the realm of reality.

Please be sure to keep the fan photos, tweets, testimonial videos, blogs, and more coming, help us to get out the word of Occupy Midian! We must be sure our voices do not falter, for we need Morgan Creek to hear the call of Midian as strongly as we do!

Help the Tribes of The Moon

Imagine the Tribes today, where are they, do they hear the same call that those of us with Occupy Midian do?

She glanced at the cigarette between her fingers, noticing the lines and creases that had deepened over the years. She watched the ash grow against the flaming ember of the cherry and tried to remember. Lately, memories were fading more and more. Try as she might she could not remember when she first started smoking and now the act gave her no pleasure, it was a habit, no a time honored tradition, that held her to her old self, like a blanket that comforts a babe in its youth. 

She felt the calling, and knew the others felt it too, as they grew restless in their slumber. Twenty-two years of traveling. Twenty-two years of searching. Their numbers had both grown and dwindled, losing some, while gaining others through birth or discovery. her own children were amongst them. Creatures of the night or Tribes of the Moon.

Since that fateful night in Midian, the group had been separated, with her Boone trying to lead them back to one another, back to home. No, Cabal was their leader, Boone was her lover. Two different creatures, one man, one beast, but residing within the confines of one body. She, herself, shared this dilemma, the dilemma of being two. And, oh, what a joyful dilemma it could be.

The call came to her again, as it had more frequently these last three months. She looked to Cabal, he only nodded and said, "Baphomet."

Occupy Midian Report 1 Transcript

I apologize that it has taken me so long to get this typed up for you guys. Busy schedule with school and work lately, I will do my best to do better with the next report transcript.

It is hard to believe that we are only three weeks into the Occupy Midian Movement. Since the Facebook Group was created it has literally exploded with an outpouring of support from Nightbreed fans. In the past three weeks we have accrued nearly 2500 members, the petition is also nearing 2500 signatures. If you have not signed the petition, please do so, there should be a link on clivebarkercast.com that you can follow.  

We have also had the pleasure of having support from many of the people who worked on the film joining the ranks of Occupy Midian, both on Facebook and using the #OccupyMidian hashtag on Twitter. We've had Clive Barker himself tweeting as well as few other famous tweeters such as Neil Gaiman, Nicholas Vince, Simon Bamford, and Steven Niles. On Facebook our group is blessed to be able to count Russell Cherrington and Mark Miller amongst its administrators. Within the Occupy Midian group we are able to count Anne Bobby, Simon Bamford, Hugh Ross, Nick Vince, Robbie Drake, and Jullian Parry amongst our members. For anyone I left out, I sincerely apologize, but it is a task going through nearly 2500 members to seek you out. Let me know who you are and I will be sure you achieve proper credit in our next Occupy Midian Report. 

Along with asking fans to sign the petition, there is currently a call on Occupy Midian for fan photos with a sign telling what Nightbreed means to them. We have had some amazing fan photo uploads as well as sign photos from Anne Bobby, Mark Miller, and a very convincing Dr. Decker looking fan.

In addition to all of this, Occupy Midian has had some amazing publicity, there are some great fan videos and Nightbreed testimonials up on Youtube, Fangoria.com has an article up, ProudlyResents.com did a podcast interviewing Russell Cherrington, GeeksofDoom.com has written an article about Occupy Midian as well as: Rue-Morgue.com, Mutantville.com, ShocktilYouDrop.com, and many others. I am trying to keep a running list of all the articles, videos, and podcasts that are done about Occupy Midian on Scoop.it/bring-back-nightbreed as there are so many it would be nearly impossible to go over them all here.

The fans of Nightbreed are many and we are occupying Midian to the extreme. Join the ranks of the Tribes of the Moon, Occupy Midian, and in the words of Clive Barker, "Go Forth & Breed."

Nightbreed's Chocolat

We briefly mentioned Choclat in Breed Beauties. Another photo from Nightbreed and a tad bit more information on her has surfaced. First the photo:

Chocolat is the figure that is 3rd from the right, she has her head covered and is carrying a wrapped infant. And we also have a possible sighting of her when the Sons of the Free are storming Midian.

I have also found another image of Choclate in Clive Barker's Nightbreed The Making of the Film on pg. 190

While I did not find any other image information on her yet, there is a piece of a scene that could very well refer to our beautiful mother Chocolat:

ASHBURY: Dear Lord...Forgive me...
There are images here which have the flavour of Christian iconography. Mother and Child.... 

Though it would be hard to say if that line references Chocolate and her sweet little babe without asking Clive Barker for sure.

Tribes of the Moon by Crystal Raen

They painted the stars, before they had to flee,
In blood and tears and agony.
The years have passed, they travel on,
Never finding another home.
They creep along the unlit path,
Always waiting with baited breath
To hear the call of Baphomet. 
The scattered limbs of a deity,
Is all they own to carry.
The night it owns them, it’s what they say,
Never will their faces touch the day.
But so long as Midian awaits,
Hidden behind a long lost gate,
Their souls will have place to be,

Breed Beauties

Was perusing the Occupy Midian group on Facebook when I noticed a conversation going about how sexy Shuna Sassi is/was. So I decided to go on a quest and find some more gorgeous/sexy breed ladies, just to prove that not all that is in Midian is monstrous looking. So without further ado, the Breed Beauties (I linked the photos back to the original places I found them).

Rachel

Rachel is a shape shifter, her body is capable of becoming smoke, a very subtle smoke, that is able to pass through solid material. She was born in Hungary and little else is known about her.

Shuna Sassi

Shuna Sassi is covered in poison quills, and once worked in a bordello. She has found love, in the form of Peloquin.

Unfortunately, I do not recall seeing Chocolat in either version of the movie, but she is definitely one of the Breed Beauties. She is the mother of 3 never aging children(infants), one of which was stolen away from her.

Annastasjia

Annastasjia has always been a beauty, even before she became breed. She was considered a great beauty of the silent movies she acted in. However, a botched skin graft that tried to take over resulted in Annastasjia to accept that she was host to the previous owner of the skin she received. She is now in Midian.

Lizzie B

Lizzie B is a beauty that is rarely seen, but she is one of the Tribes of the Moon.

Unknown

I do not know the above Breed's name, but her facial structure is one of beauty, despite the missing lower face. And lovely eyes I might add.

Lori

And, well, if you watched the original movie, you have no idea that Lori becomes Breed. Unless of course you read the book Cabal by Clive Barker. And Lori, played by Anne Bobby, is most certainly a Breed BEAUTY!

If I were a breed beauty I would want horns...(photo from Halloween '09) But I felt it was as close to looking like a Midian occupant as I will ever get. I want to see your Occupy Midian photos and your photos as you showing your Breed face! Share links, etc. in the comments please!

Image Animation work on Nightbreed

I've been looking through Clive Barker's The Nightbreed Chronicles and am just amazed at how detailed each of Midian's "monsters" is. There are so many amazing creatures that my mind is boggled by it. Even the monster's that are viewed for even a brief second in the film are done in exquisite detailing. I am currently fascinated by the animatornic third-stage Peloquin.

Nightbreed is worth watching, even if it is just for the wonderful imagery created with the Midian occupants. And the Director's Cut offers even more of these wonderful monsters to feast your eyes upon. The world is opened up and expanded before you in a way that you never would have expected if you've only seen the original release of Nightbreed. This is why so many want to see the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed released to the masses.

Image Animation, which was owned by Bob Keen and Geoff Portass, was responsible for the special make-up effects in Nightbreed. They created around two hundred different breed with the hopes of making Midian look as though it was inhabited by about a thousand creatures.

Bob Keen stated that the most difficult thing about working on Nightbreed was the sheer scale of the project. He also described Nightbreed as 'probably one of the weirdest films we've worked on. It's a great role reversal in that the monsters are the good guys. Clive has ensured that we care for these creatures --- they are all so innocent. For an effects person that meant a completely different set of rules as far as the creatures were concerned: our colour schemes were different, our concepts were different, and anything that was too negative we played down because we wanted people to feel for the Breed.'

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any recent information on Image Animation and do not know if they are still around or not. If you have any information on them, please let us know!

And Pandemonium Breaks Loose...

Tonight's Nightbreed flashback is brought to you from another piece out of Richie V.'s collection. pg. 68 of Pandemonium Conceived and Edited by Michael Brown.

In the top left you have David Cronenberg as the maniacal Dr. Decker. In the original cut of Nightbreed, you miss out on how much of a hold that little mask has on Decker. You get to hear it talk to him (or command him rather) in the Cabal cut, which even if a shorter addition to the movie, is quite a treat in and of itself.

In the top right corner is a Pre-Production sketch of Decker with the button face mask on. I love how skeletal this sketch looks. However, even without the movie Decker looking quite this menacing, that little mask still sometimes shows up in the corners of my most uncomfortable dreams.

Bottom left corner is a Pre-Production sketch of Ashberry transformed. Great little sketch and they stick fairly close with it in the film.

Bottom right corner is Malcolm Smith being made to look like the scalded Ashberry. If you have seen the Cabal cut (which too many of the population hasn't, and we hope that this gets rememdied asap) then you have missed an incredible ending where Ashberry's character has quite a transformation, for me this by itself changed the entire movie and left me yearning to know more about his character.

So many things were made more beautiful and more ugly (in a good way that ugly can sometimes be good) for me. For those of you who want the chance to see this movie please help by joining the Occupy Midian/Bring Back Nightbreed movement:

Richie V. found his Clive Barker's Shadows in Eden book. He wanted to share some images that he felt were the most moving to help with the Occupy Midian and Bring Back Nightbreed movement.

There are some great quotes in Chapter 36 Frights of Fancy by Nigel Floyd. Thus far my favorite is:

Another great quote is:

This piece of art, while beautiful in and of itself, isn't quite a true depiction of the entire Nightbreed story. However, with the original release, one would believe that it would be so. The Cabal Cut of Nightbreed would show this piece of art turned around, the monster's suffering at the hands of man. which in this story is unfortunately true.

Which brings us back to one of our favorite questions that surrounds Nightbreed:

Who is truly the real monster?

Cabal Cut Petition

There is now an updated, working, petition out for obtaining a Restored, Extended Cut of Clive Barker's Nightbreed (the working title is the Cabal Cut) thanks to the hard workers over at the Occupy Midian Facebook Group.

This petition has been up for less than a day and already has (at this moment) over 70 signatures! Which is great, however, to get a movie released by Morgan Creek we are going to need A LOT more signatures than that. After you sign the petition you will be taken to a page that is asking for donations, this is NOT for Occupy Midian or Bring Back Nightbreed it is for ipetitions website.

Occupy Midian to Bring Back Nightbreed

For those of you who are dedicated to the cause of convincing Morgan Creek to release the Cabal Cut of Nightbreed you should also check out the Facbook Group: Occupy Midian.

I'm hoping that they will be willing to work with the Facebook Page: Bring Back Nightbreed. We will see.

For those of you itching to take action, here is today's tip on getting this amazing movie released:

Morgan Creek has their mailing address at the bottom of their webpage (http://morgancreek.com). I saw a suggestion on Occupy Midian that writing Morgan Creek letters inquiring about when the extended cut of Nightbreed is going to be released to encourage them to release it. I'm going to write my letter tonight and put it in the mail first thing in the morning.

For an example here is what I am going to be writing:

I was fortunate enough to be able to see the Director's Cut of Nightbreed on Saturday, March 25 at the Mad Monster Party in Charlotte, NC. I was absolutely amazed by this version of the film (much more so than the original release). My fiance and I are definitely want to add the extended cut of Nightbreed to our movie collection. I also know several people who are interested in purchasing a copy. I was wondering how I can purchase a DVD of this. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Something simple and sweet with promises of purchases should definitely help encourage Morgan Creek to release the extended cut, as for them, it is a business. Therefore, money speaks.

Realization at Mad Monster Party

At the Mad Monster Party Convention in Charlotte, NC on March 24, 2012, I was privileged enough to meet with Craig Sheffer and Anne Bobby. Which was beyond how I'd imagined it to be. They are both down to earth super friendly, amazing people. Meeting them was great as my fiance had recently introduced me to Nightbreed, and I liked it. I will be the first to admit I hadn't read Clive Barker's Cabal (and at this current moment still haven't), however, I enjoyed the movie, Richie has loved the book and the movie since he was a child.

After my first time seeing Nightbreed, Richie tried to talk me into reading the book, I just didn't see that I would want to since in Nightbreed, there didn't seem to be a coherent story.

Then I saw The Director's Cut of Nightbreed at the Mad Monster Party.

I am definitely carving out some time to read Clive Barker's book now.

The story that was cut out of this movie is a beautiful story. It is heartbreaking, chilling, and even a little insightful (for me anyway). There is this rich meaning behind Nightbreed that was never put out for the public to see, a story that made me cry, smile, and hide my eyes at times.

After the movie, the panel that discussed things with the crowd tugged at my heart. Anne Bobby cried, and as she cried something tugged at my mind. Then with the support of the crowd, Anne was coaxed into singing for us. Her voice is more amazing in person that it was in the film.

Listening to the stories that people have with this film, the memories, and now the realization that the story was meant to be a more complete creature, many people want to see the film the way Clive Barker meant for it to be seen. What can I do? I want to see this film again, go through the emotions again, I want to share it with my family and friends.

So here I am, I am going to do my best to find out info on how to help get this film up and going so that it will be put out on DVD for the masses. If you want to help, stick around and follow the tips that I am going to do my best to unearth.
